This Amazing Guy

So, there's this AMAZING guy
Who used to yell at me as I walked by
He was 18
And treated me like his queen
Soon he became my best friend
Every waking hour we'd try to spend
Sometimes even getting ice cream for my mom
This poor guy even missed his senior prom
But he ONCE sang me a song
I knew right then my feelings were strong
Not much has changed these past twenty two years
Except he's had several careers...
First, construction, then a security guard
He's even been licensed to give you your insurance card!
I think he's super smart
And of course he has a really big heart!
He loves to make you laugh
Really, he is my better half!
There's that saying "Time sure flies when you're having fun!"
Well, I do feel like we've just begun!
PJ, turning 40 should make you feel proud
Just look at a few things your life has allowed...
Four very beautiful, feisty girls,
Your gorgeous dark curls,
Friends and family that love you,
Somehow always being able to make due,
Your many talents and strengths,
A brother that came great lengths...
And of course for hitting your prime,
I HAD to give you your very own rhyme!
Honey, you're still that AMAZING guy!
Thank you for still whistling as I walk by
My love for you grows stronger and stronger each passing day
I'm looking forward to those days we're together, old and gray!

Innocence Lost

A child's innocence now is lost,
and nobody knows the true cost.
She cried out but no one heard,
or they ignored her spoken word.
Why did they look the other way?
Did they not know what to say?
She did what was right,
and tried her best to fight!
Against the men she was supposed to trust,
but all they saw was a little girl and lust!
Nobody fought for this little one,
this abuse can never be undone!
Those memories she soon pushed aside,
even though she was dying inside!
Now this little girl is all grown,
and has children of her own.
All this time she's wondered what's wrong,
why didn't she feel very strong?
Then it hits her like an ocean wave,
she realizes she was a child sex slave!
Her whole world now is dark and deep,
all she can do is hide and weep!
It physically hurts her to be alive,
she's trying so hard to survive!
Against this pain she pushes through,
her life now has a new view.
She's no longer able to keep her silence,
hiding behind this horrific violence!!

This Year

This year will not be like my last!
This year I will not dwell on my past!
This year I'm moving on!
This year is my new dawn!
This year I will give more love!
This year I will remember my Father up above!
This year I will learn and grow!
This year I will see everything has its own glow!
This year I will taste new things!
This year I will go play on the swings!
This year I will forgive and forget!
This new year means I get to reset!
This year will be a great year!
This year I will have no fear!
This year I will not hide!
This year I will spend more time outside!
I'll say it one last time!
This year will NOT be like my last!
I will NOT dwell on my past!
I have a good life ahead!
With my best friend beside me in our bed!
